Hippo

 A Resting Spot for All

In the same way that hippos create a surface for little birds to gather, this hippo brings people together through creating a common relaxation space.  While at RISD, I have watched my peers experience increasing anxiety, depression, and loneliness. Most of this is due to a lack of connection in others, often caused by social media. The more people isolate themselves from those around them, the worse they feel. Thus, creating a shared location creates a gathering spot for people to talk to and relax with each other.
What’s notable about this project was that it was the second time I did upholstery. It was also the first time I sewed a zipper. Yet the hippo turned out surprisingly well.
