Turtle Quilt
A Weighted Quilt for Any Season
The Turtle Quilt was the second quilt I’ve created. It was designed on the RHINO 3D modeling program for accuracy. The planning of this project took a long time, as each color had to be organized into a file to be cut on a laser cutter. Laser cutting is useful because it saves time and is more precise. It is especially convenient for patterning fabric. With the laser cutter, the turtle pieces no longer need to be marked and cut by hand. The background pattern was cut by hand using a quilting technique called stacking. In this technique, strips of fabric are lined up together and sewn. Then, the sewn strips are cut into cubes and shifted, creating a chessboard effect. Using this technique saved me a lot of time as I did not have to sew the individual squares together.
